Schoolsworks Writing Competition Results

We are delighted to announce some very exciting news for Downsbrook in the results of the writing competition this year!

After a very tough round of judging Downsbrook has not one, but two runners up in the Year 2&3 category.

Gwen Anscombe and Ethan Nieuwoudt will both be receiving a prize of book vouchers for their stunning Story entries which can be downloaded and read from the files below.  Congratulations to them and all children who entered the competition this year!

The Haunted House by Gwen Anscombe

The Tiger and the Virus by Ethan Nieuwoudt

Over 200 children from across the seven Schoolsworks schools entered this year’s short story writing competition and the standard of entries was incredibly high. Over the last few weeks, a team of volunteer judges from across the Trust have been busy reading and shortlisting their favourite stories in each age category.

The shortlisted stories were eventually whittled down to a single winner and four runner ups in each age group.

The winner in the reception and Year 1 age group was Zachary from River Beach with his story ‘Night Ninja’ about a policeman called Dan who turns into a ninja at night.

In the Year 2 and 3 category, the winning story was ‘Freedom’ by Elodie from Year 3 at Rustington. ‘Freedom’ tells the story of a troll and his animal friends who emerge into a woodland following a period hiding away from the outside world.

Finally, the winning entry in the Year 4 to Year 6 category was by Jack from Year 6 at Rustington with his powerful story ‘Caged’ about a magical incident that occurs between a lion and a visitor at a zoo.

Each winner and the 12 runner ups will now receive their prize of book vouchers. As well as this, all of the winning and runner up stories will be published in a story collection which will be available to read in the library of each Schoolsworks school.

Thank you to every child who entered the Schoolsworks Story Competition this year. The standard of writing and the level of creativity was very impressive. The full list of winners and runner ups are listed below.
