School Council

At our school, the School Council gives children a real voice in shaping school life. It works like a mini government, with two representatives from each class—a Councillor and a Vice Councillor—who are voted for by their peers at the start of the school year. Candidates often prepare and deliver speeches to their classmates before voting takes place, making the process both exciting and empowering.

The School Council helps pupils develop important life skills such as leadership, public speaking, teamwork, and decision-making. Through their roles, children learn how to represent others, share ideas, and take part in respectful discussions about how we can continue to improve our school.

Importantly, it also helps children develop a clear understanding of democracy and representation, as they learn how their voices—and the voices of others—can shape collective decisions.

The benefits of the School Council extend beyond those elected. It is a valued part of our school community that ensures every child is heard, promotes active participation, and encourages a strong sense of responsibility and inclusion across the school.

By giving our pupils the opportunity to help lead and shape their environment, the School Council plays an important role in preparing them not just for school, but for life beyond it.
